Display changes from “L-ON” to “L-OFF” every second. To unlock test functions, press
the cluster button immediately when it changes to “L-OFF”. Tests are automatically
locked when exiting test functions

Procedure

Figure out the CODE. Add the last five digits of your VIN. This is the CODE that you will need to enter later to unlock your BMW hidden menu. Example: If your BMW VIN is XXXXXXXX22327, the CODE will be 16. (2+2+3+2+7=16 )

I was reading about this recently and was totally fascinated…. Give it a try!

BMW Self-Test Mode Instructions:

Instructions to access the hidden functions:
1. Hold Trip Reset while turning ignition key to position 1.
2. LCD should show “Test 1.0”
3. Press the reset button again to select function 19.0 that unlocks all the features
3. Wait for display to show “Off”
4. Depress Trip Reset for 1/4 second and release it
5. Then with no delay, press Trip Reset several times to select one of the following functions.

Unlocking test functions:
• Call up test #19 – This is automatically done if attempting to enter a locked test
• Using the trip meter reset button enter by pressing the sum of the last 5 digits of the
chassis number, example: VIN GB11111, – 1+1+1+1+1 = 5, press the reset button 5
times.
• Confirm entry by pressing the CC button.
The test function can be cancelled by switching the ignition off or pressing the CC button
for approximately 2 seconds.
